Gentle Hair Coloring with 3% Hydrogen Peroxide

The 3% hydrogen peroxide used as an antiseptic to cuts and scrapes can also double up as a gentle hair bleach.

Because the 3% concentration is so low, it’ll be very gentle on your hair and the change in color will also look more natural and subtle.

If you don’t have hydrogen peroxide in your first aid kit at home, it can be found in most pharmacies for only a few dollars per bottle.

Here’s how to do it: Fill a spray bottle with 3% hydrogen peroxide. There’s no need to dilute this. After a shower, when your hair is dry and clean (without any products) spray the solution over your hair and brush through until damp. Leave this on for 30 minutes then wash off. Do this every few days and over time your hair will lighten slowly.

This is good for subtle changes instead of a dramatic change in color. For example, if your hair is dark brown, using hydrogen peroxide will slowly lighten it to a more medium brown. If you have medium brown hair, it’ll turn to the shade of lighter golden brown.
